These drugs represent 2 different classes of medications (a synthetic corticosteroid and a LABA) that have different effects on clinical, physiologic, and inflammatory indices.Fluticasone propionate is a synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory activity. The two active ingredients are salmeterol and fluticasone. Common adverse reactions (≥3% and greater than placebo) seen in the pediatric subjects but not reported in the adult and adolescent clinical trials include: throat irritation and ear, nose, and throat infections.Elevation of hepatic enzymes was reported in ≥1% of subjects in clinical trials. Do not give Advair Diskus to other people, even if they have the same symptoms that you have. Use the medicine exactly as directed.Using too much of this medicine can cause life-threatening side effects.Advair Diskus is a powder form of fluticasone and salmeterol that comes with a special inhaler device pre-loaded with blister packs containing measured doses of the medicine. The inhaler is not reusable. In patients with asthma, the smaller airways ( bronchioles ) through which air moves in and out of the lungs can be narrowed by accumulation of mucus , spasm of the muscles that surround these airways, or swelling of the lining of the airways due to inflammation. Tell your doctor about any illness or infection you have had within the past several weeks.chronic infections (such as tuberculosis, fungal, bacterial, viral, parasitic, or herpes of the eye );Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. The elevations were transient and did not lead to discontinuation from the trials.
