Was recently prescribed spironolactone in response to a new diagnosis of PCOS. Anyways, I got it checked out last March 2018 and took a few hormones test and turns out my DHEA Sulfate was on the higher side. My hair was still fine, but soft and full. Spironolactone is very effective in lessening hair growth and improving acne for young women, especially those taking oral contraceptive pills. I was losing up to a hundred strands of hair just in the shower. I get intralesional cortosteriod injections at the dermatologist. If anyone else has had the issue with spirolactone and rashes, please comment, if you have gone onto a diet that has improved symptoms , did you stop spiro soon as you started the diet? Are there any other side effects I should ie loss of libido?
Has your hair always been naturally thin even when you were healthy? Started Nov. 22nd and today is Feb. 6 2018. Not much regrowth as yet, very much hoping it will restart very soon!

Spironolactone causes irregular periods in 80 % of women and really increases the risk of developing low iron levels - which is one of the most important causes of hair loss in young women!! What is your experience? mine has oddly been on the downward spiral as of late (not on bc) and I dont want the spiro to exacerbate the situation. When it comes to solutions to hair loss, it may be time to stop your search here and consider Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) instead of spironolactone. Of course having alopecia a lot are the thin white hair that hopefully turn into thicker darker shafts but most are my natural color brown. Select one or more newsletters to continue.
