Many women worry that stopping Arimidex after five years will cause their cancer to come back; however, the International Breast Cancer Intervention Study II (IBIS-II) Prevention trial reports that:Once your treatment team has decided that you can stop taking Arimidex, you can stop it completely; you won’t need to taper down the dose gradually. I'll be starting those pills in a week and have read such horror stories about it, I was worrying myself sick.My symptoms seem to have gone away as time has gone on. This slows the growth of tumors that require estrogen to grow. I have been off it 2 months I too just finished taking Anastrazole after years and having incredible fatigue. ?I too just finished taking Anastrazole after years and having incredible fatigue. (Arimidex). Some of the more serious side effects of Tamoxifen include blood clots, stroke, endometrial cancer and memory loss. I am just now experiencing some dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs), like arimidex, aromasin and femara, are also used to help fight cancer cell regrowth. Most doctors recommend taking Arimidex at the same time each day.

Anastrozole does, in fact, list joint pain and bone loss as potential side effects. With approval from my doctor I switched to Arimidex (for 3 weeks) in the hope side effects would be less. How long do side effects continue once Arimidex is stopped? Arimidex lowers estrogen levels by preventing the synthesis of estrogen from adrenal androgens (primarily androstenedione and testosterone). It does this by inhibiting the enzyme aromatase, which converts these androgens into estrogen. Were any of them prior to/when you were still taking the drug?

Generally it takes four to five half-lives for a drug to be eliminated from the body, so in the case of Arimidex this would be 150 to 300 hours, or six to 12 days. The growth of many cancers of the breast is stimulated or maintained by estrogens.

Monday, July 23rd, after consulting with Dr. Loprinzi, we decided to have me stop taking anastrozole. I've been on them going on 4 years.
One brief incident of palpitations/chest pain, an abnormal EKG (compared to a recent prior test) and elevated blood pressure, caused my admission to a cardiac unit overnight. Arimidex shouldn't be taken at the same time as tamoxifen.
Has anyone experienced any of these symptoms after 2 months of taking?I have been on Anastrozole for almost 2 months, take it at night. anyone else have "withdrawal symptoms"? Has anyone experienced any of these symptoms after 2 months of taking?Thank you for the positive words. It has been 5 years since I started the drug after breast cancer surgery and radiation. I was on Arimidex for six weeks and basically lost the use of my left hand, I immediately stopped taking Arimidex, even, though a call to my Oncologist office said that wasn't a side effect. I am just now experiencing some dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite. I am now worried about coming off it, I have read conflicting theories about how long it should be taken for. Has anyone stopped this drug and had any withdrawal symptoms? Many side effects of Arimidex will improve within a couple of weeks of stopping arimidex; however, some may persist long term.
